-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some notes on above systems.
The Boss dBBS - Very good bulletin board system, with a large variety of
C language files. The conference is just starting and doesn't have a lot
of participation yet, but give it a little time, it can grow big.
202-547-2008 - This board is Robert Blacher's public board. For a fee,
you can also have access to a private board. I have been on this board
once and it seems like an excellent board with Turbo Pascal/C language
for Unix and DOS as main emphasis's in the languages. I have yet to be
back on because every time I try to access the public board, it has been
busy. Most of the time it has been at 1:30 or 2:30AM East Coast time, so
this is definitely a popular board.
PCSI dBBS - In my opinion, the best individual conference for C
programming (excluding the Echomail C conference). Absolutely top-notch
people who know their stuff and are willing to answer questions. dBBS is
written by the SysOp - Daniel Doman in C and assembler and it is a very
nice package to use as a user. This is a top notch board with a top
notch set of users.
213-874-8494 - This board is a Fido board run on an IBM PC AT with 30
megs of disk space. The nice thing about this kind of board is that Fido
is very familiar to a lot of bbs users and it is easy to get around with.
This board has a large selection of C source code files and is a member
of the Echomail C programmers conference. I will comment on the
conference later.
214-494-1940 - Another Fido board, this one seems to concentrate on C
language and it does a good job. A lot of C language source code and it
also is a member of the Echomail C programmers conference.
214-521-9019 - This is an interesting board. It is running a new board
package or, a rewritten version of Fido. It is a board which uses ANSI
graphics alot, with a well done display using them. All message areas
come out in color using ANSI and it looks quite nice, even for me on a
COMPAQ portable with only different shades of green and no color. It
also is a member of the Echomail C programmer's conference.
214-821-0390 - This is a bulletin board that is run in and on the Unix
environment. It offers online programming (for a fee, I believe) and all
kinds of C language files for both DOS and UNIX. It is an excellent bbs.
404-263-1151 - The C/Turbo Exchange - This board places it's main
emphasis on programming and the technical aspect of programming. It has
a C/Turbo Programming conference and very knowledgable SysOps who are
willing to ask questions. Main emphasis is on C language, Turbo Pascal,
and assembler for the IBM PC.
404-928-1876 - Ken Shackleford's Fido Board - Main emphasis here is C in
the DOS and UNIX environment. It also subsribes to the Echomail C
programmer's Conference. It is a pay system, although.
404-977-6686 - The PC Exchange - This board has a lot to offer in the way
of a programmer's conference. The main emphasis in the Programmer's
Conference is Microsoft C 3.0 and above and Turbo Pascal. One of the Co-
SysOps of the Programmer's Conference is Sammy "Qedit" Mitchell, and he
seems to be very knowledgable with C and Turbo Pascal. The other Co-
SysOp, whose name escapes me for the moment(sorry!) seems to be very
knowledgable about Microsoft C and C programming in general. So far does
not have a great variety of files, but it is a young conference and
should expand immensely. Excellent conference area on this board!!!
The Echomail C programmer's Conference
--------------------------------------
The Echomail C programmer's Conference is a national network of
messages geared to the C programmer. If you have a question about C
programming, just call up one of the boards which is a member of the
national network, and I'm sure that someone will be able to answer it.
The nice thing about this conference is that the messages go all over the
United States and the answers to the questions will be put up on all
nodes of the network, not just the one the message was left on. So say
you called on board to leave the message and then a few days later it had
been answered, you could get that answer on any board that had the
Echomail C programmer's conference. This conference is not only limited
to IBM PC users also. Other machine users can leave messages and have
them answered also.
